The waterproof tests include:
- The 3M water repellency test, one of the tests required by 3M™ Scotchgard™, in which water is poured on the leather from above and the extent of water droplets hanging onto the leather is evaluated. A score is given based on AATCC* standards.
- Note: The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorist (AATCC) is a non-international organization that assesses color fastness and physical properties of fabrics.
Oil drop /water drop tests, aqueous solution and oil assigned by 3M are used; a volumetric pipet is then used to drop the solution/oil onto the leather; the water/oil repellency of the leather is determined based on the drop of solution/oil onto the leather.
—-> The tests mentioned above are tests required by 3M™ Scotchgard™. - Water resistance in flexed condition: to test whether the leather is water resistant by simulating the flexed condition when walking. The international standard of 15,000 times is used; it is a test done by many international brands.
